Brockholes Wedding Photographer
It is truly a beautiful place for a wedding. I have been to Brockholes Nature Reserve many times before, but this was the first time going as a wedding photographer. And I loved it, there are so many good interesting places for wedding portraits. We had done a pre wedding shoot in Summer to scout out some locations and to have a chat about their plans for the wedding day. September is a great time of year for a wedding the evening light is warm and flattering and if you get a dry day it can be magical.
Brockholes Nature Reserve
Brockholes is a nature reserve just off the M6 near Preston. Located in an old quarry on the banks of the River Ribble. The nature reserve was manage by Lancashire Wildlife Trust and has matured into a stunning, peaceful place to enjoy the outdoors and nature. The visitor centre opened in 2011, a very unique floating island that sits on the lake with views of the reserve all around. The buildings were made to be friendly environmentally . The modern look still sits and fits into the location perfectly and is a truly eye catching venue to get married. It has a real relaxing laid back feel to the place and if you are looking for a eco friendly wedding, Brockholes is perfect. They try and use local produce and reduce waste and CO2 footprints. As a wedding photographer its perfect for wedding portraits, with 100 acres of beautiful land to use.
Wedding Prep
I arrived to photograph the bride and her bridesmaids getting ready for the wedding, with the amazing Kathryn Farrington makeup Artistry and Lisa Walker Hair. Beci looked amazing in her wedding dress from Wed2B. We then headed to Brockholes where Phil was waiting with all the guests.
The Wedding
The ceremony room is amazing, with massive windows that blend onto the water. The ceremony had a good amount of laughs with the couple who are so relaxed with each other. During the drinks reception we nipped off the island for some wedding portraits in the reeds and around the wetlands. I photograph the couple photographs in a very relaxed way, with no forced uncomfortable posing.
It was then back on the island for the wedding breakfast and speeches before the evening festivities with DFC providing the entertainment.
The way I shoot weddings is in a documentary style with a few natural portraits. Concentrating on capturing all the special moments of your wedding day and telling the real story of your wedding day.
Here are my favourites of the day.

Natural, unobtrusive, documentary wedding photography that tells the real story of your wedding day.
